Gab's 50 Books of 2024

Writer's picture: GabGab

I've had a rough year so don't hate that I only got this far. As per the last list, I'll put in bold the ones that I really recommend, and I'll do the occasional italicized review. Let's hope and pray I at least make it to 50 books, to be honest though, I'm not sure I will at the rate I'm going.

  1. A Mother's Reckoning: Living in the Aftermath of Tragedy by Sue Klebold

  2. I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer by Michelle McNamara

  3. Cantoras by Caro De Robertis

  4. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

  5. Wellness by Nathan Hill

  6. In Memoriam by Alice Winn

  7. Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng

  8. Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng

  9. The Wishing Game by Meg Shaffer

  10. The Cartographers by Peng Shepherd

  11. The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

  12. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

  13. The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan

  14. The Titan's Curse by Rick Riordan

  15. The Battle of the Labyrinth by Rick Riordan

  16. The Last Olympian by Rick Riordan

  17. Unaccustomed Earth by Jhumpa Lahiri

  18. The Measure by Nikki Erlick

  19. Luster by Raven Leilani

  20. The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan

  21. The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan

  22. The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan

  23. The House of Hades by Rick Riordan

  24. The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan

  25. Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

  26. Trans Girl Suicide Museum by Hannah Baer

  27. Sex and Vanity by Kevin Kwan

  28. The Poppy War by R.F. Kwang, I am a huge fan of this author but this book was particularly bad and I won't be back for the sequel. It was slow, uninteresting and at times, flat out painful.

  29. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan

  30. Chine Rich Girlfriend by Kevin Kwan

  31. Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan

  32. Death in Her Hands by Ottessa Moshfegh, I really was only interested towards the end when I realized that the narrator is most likely in psychosis. But it is very subtle and sneaks up on you as I too well know. The author does not make it clear that she is in psychosis but that's how I read it and it made for a much more interesting take.

  33. The Secret History by Donna Tartt

  34. The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan

  35. The God of the Woods by Liz Moore

  36. Zero Days by Ruth Ware

  37. A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

  38. 11/22/63 by Stephen King, this was probably the best book I read all year, I didn't know Stephen King could do sci-fi this well. Usually, time travel groundhog day esque books get tired but this one needed every page, it was fast paced and interesting with a good twist.

  39. The Family Romanov: Murder, Rebellion and the Fall of Imperial Russia by Candance Fleming

  40. Margo's Got Money Troubles by Rufi Thorpe

  41. The Girl Who Survived Auschwitz by Eti Elboim, Sara Lebovits and Esther Frumkin
